Family Fun Night

Tonight was the much anticipated smashing of the car. In fact, C woke up this morning and the very first thing he said in his very groggy early morning voice was, “Is today the car smashing day?” We headed straight over to Family Fun Night after we got home (and changed clothes and filled water bottles and packed the bike basket) and ran into our friends B and N and their lovely mom Heather right as we pulled in. Those two are much more civilized children and had no interest in beating an old car with a sledgehammer, so we headed off to get that out of our system while they went over to the bouncy house. Thank goodness those level headed Baptists had the sense to remove all of the vehicle’s glass before we started. Yes, it’s a bit less fun to smash without glass, but a whole lot less stressful for the mamas. As you can see, C found a hammer just his size, and enjoyed the novelty of beating on steel (REAL STEEL by the way, this sucker held up like a tank. They don’t make ‘em like that anymore- can you imagine doing this with one of those cheesy plastic Saturns?)

Then it was straight to the hotdogs. We were HUNGRY and both scarfed down two before B even mustered up the nerve to get started. We treated our girl to a trip to the cupcake walk, and these two won back-to-back, perfect!

Played a couple games (the boys particularly enjoyed the game “spray the nice volunteers with water guns instead of hitting the targets until they finally turn the hose on you”), then headed over to check out the swift water search and rescue. They showed the kids how pulleys assist when lifting weights out of the water, and how they harness someone to rescue them.


We topped off the night with a very cool show from “The Reptile Man”, who had ginormous turtles, snakes and lizards and an alligator too. The boys sat right up against the stage, and got to pet the albino anaconda after the show.
