Then leave me shivering and alone (okay, not completely alone) while you run around with kids you met five minutes ago. Such is the life of a mom.
On Friday we went with Heather and crew to the opening night of the Belles (can you imagine being a young guy and having to play for a team by that name?) My plan was to show up about the fourth inning and walk in after they stopped taking tickets (since I knew better than to expect my son to watch anyway). But the sunshine was calling to us, and the park was packed, so it worked out as well as $5-6 bucks a head can. The main attraction was the fireworks after the game, which made up for the home team getting royally whooped.
As we begin walking into the ballpark Christian made the cutest remark off hand, along the lines of (big contented sigh) “a good day AND a baseball game” Pure bliss apparently. It was precious.

Taking a little breather between rounds of running from the girls.
We had a great time, but the children could have completely ignored the game while playing in the grass across the street and I would have saved 11 bucks! Heather, bless her heart sprung for the coffee (drip, nothing fancy) because there’s nothing like sitting around on the damp grass on a lovely forty degree June evening in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. We each had on a coat or two and a big fat blanket while we shivered the night away. The children on the other hand wanted to be barefoot and in short sleeves, of course.
The fireworks were really good, basically right in front of us, and went on for longer than I expected. Then to top it all off, the kids got to do the traditional “running of the bases” before the park closed down. There must have been 30 kids out there, running the bases under the big stadium lights. Our three took 5 or 6 laps before being shooed off by the grounds crew. And we slept very well (until 8:45am to be exact!).
