Today was the much anticipated graduation ceremony and party for the Kindergarteners at Blossom. I'll call it "Round 1" because Little Bug has only been a part of the Kindergarten class since February, and will stay put for another year until he's old enough for 1st grade. So we'll do this all again next year, and I will sob like a baby!
They sure were a cute bunch of kiddos. About half of the "graduating class" has been with us since toddlerhood. I have watched these kids grow up since diapers, and now they are leaving to go be big kids in elementary school. I am so glad I get one more year to come to terms with this all. And next year the other half of the kids we've been with since forever will graduate (for real) together.
The "ceremony" was held outside in the garden. And luckily the sun even came out. The kids entered through a curtained doorway when their names were announced, accepted their "diploma" from their Kindergarten teacher, shook hands with their Pre-school teacher, and then all perfomed together for us. They signed all of their songs, since ASL is a big part of the program at Blossom, but you could tell it was hard for Little Bug to sign and sing at the same time with an audience. At the end they each brought their mothers a potted sunflower (the kindergarten is at the "Sunflower House"). Then we all went around to view their "culminating projects", which were study units they choose to focus on as groups all Spring. Little Bug studied wetlands and the life cycle of frogs. He showed us his presentation and we checked out the few surviving frogs (apparently a certain little brother is responsible for their untimely demise).
Bug went home with Grandma because tomorrow school is closed for teacher inservice and resetting of the classrooms to prepare for summer. Maybe the sun would like to reset for summer as well? Here's hoping!

Very Cute... just wait until next year, and you start to feel very flushed and your eyes get hot with tears.
At least since our kids are on the age cusp, we get to gradually have our hearts torn out rather than suddenly.
Can you imagine having to send our kids to Kindergarten this year (if they had been born in Aug?) Yipes!
