In Ethiopia I asked Ashenafi's special mothers if he said anything in Amharic, they told me he only had "baby talk" and no real words yet.
Of course he does say "mama", "nana" and "dada", and it is quite heartwarming to hear his "mama" and "Mom!", but honestly he uses all these words pretty interchangeably so they really don't count. He also says "eye- YA!" when he's really excited about something, but I don't know what language that is in.
This week Ashi started saying his first official English word. "Up" He says is when he's climbing the stairs to go up to the slide, "up up up" he squeals. We've been working on "up mama" to get picked up too (which I prefer over the raised hands and grunting).
Then down the slide we go, usually backward to avoid going head-over-heels on the way down. Silly boy!
He's also picking up some ASL. He's been using the sign for "more", which is a pretty squishy combination between "more" and "cheese" because he really wants "more cheese". Oh American Cheese, why must you taunt me.

ok, we have that same outfit for Zoe!! i cannot wait to put her in it!! and so cute, but really the american cheese, why must they all like it so??? don't they know it is NOT REAL CHEESE??? ick

GREAT PHOTOS! My little man got excited when he saw the photos! He said "Ashi! My friend!"...we've been home two months...he knows him from HH! I didn't realize it...we just happened to be looking at blogs together! HOW COOL!
