Last night I got my FDL (Favorable Determination Letter) from the Department of Homeland Security (formerly the Citizenship and Immigration Department of the USA ). I think it sounds absurd that that a department called "Homeland Security" has anything to do with orphaned children coming into this country. "Citizenship and Immigration" sounded so much more sane. It is good to know the government deems me qualified to raise a child. Of course their only real criteria is that you have a fairly thin file with the FBI (I don’t think you’re allowed to be on the no-fly list, sorry Dad) and you make a bit more than the federal poverty level. Woohoo! That’s me.
